PERRYSBURG - Audra Appold didn't wait long to decide on where she'll play college volleyball.
Only a junior, the Perrysburg High School standout has verbally committed to play at Ohio State.
Appold earned a scholarship to play for the Buckeyes.
The 5-foot-11 outside hitter had 391 kills and 284 digs last fall. She also was a third-team All-Ohio selection, and was the Northern Lakes League and District 7 player of the year.
"(OSU) was close to home," Appold said. "It's a great conference to play volleyball. Great academics. I like the challenge. I liked the coaches and the players, too.
"It's great competition every night. The girls you play against are big and strong. That challenges me every day to work my hardest and become a better passer, and a stronger hitter and server."
The OSU coaching staff watched Appold play last fall and she visited the school in November. She committed to OSU earlier this month.
Appold also received interest from Ohio University, Northwestern, Georgia and Kansas.
The Buckeyes were 18-14 overall and 6-14 in the Big Ten Conference last season, but were 23-11, 13-7 in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

There are four repeat selections, including two from Perrysburg, on the All-Wood County girls basketball team this season.
The Yellow Jackets' Sarah Baer, a senior, and Allex Brown, a junior, are repeat selections along with Elmwood senior Kristen Curtis and Rossford senior Julie Hotz.
Rounding out the first team are Bowling Green senior Hanna Williford, and Lake junior Jordyn Taylor. Williford and Taylor were honorable mention picks last season.
The team was selected by the Sentinel-Tribune sports staff.
Baer and Brown provided a tough inside tandem for the Yellow Jackets, who were ranked sixth in the state while winning the Northern Lakes League championship and finishing 22-4 overall.
Two of Perrysburg's losses were to Toledo Notre Dame, including a season-ending defeat in the district final. Notre Dame advanced to the state semifinals before losing.

There is something to be said for a coach who amasses a substantial number of wins.
There is more to be said for a coach who has genuine care for his players, assistant coaches and opponents alike.
When talking about Mike Heck you noticed all of these.
The coach who led Rossford's boys basketball program through its last dominant stretch, the coach who fine-tuned 10 collegiate basketball players, and the coach who was named to the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches' Hall of Fame as an assistant and head coach died March 5, at the Cleveland Clinic. He was 68.
Described by many as a passionate and fierce competitor, Heck led Rossford to a 135-67 record including two Northern Lakes League titles, four sectional titles, a district title, and an appearance in the regional finals.
