PERRYSBURG — In its first five games, Perrysburg’s girls basketball team had already been through some rough patches.
Foul trouble and a high turnover count slowed the Yellow Jackets, although they had not dropped a game.
Friday night’s game against Maumee was different.
The Panthers, yet to win this year, dug a hole early and Perrysburg capitalized, putting together its most complete performance in a 82-25 Northern Lakes League trouncing.

PERRYSBURG — Quinn Thomas and Matt Mesker knew they were going to have to play accelerated roles in order for Perrysburg to have a successful season.
The starting Yellow Jacket guards seemed to embrace that challenge Thursday night in their Northern Lakes League opener at Napoleon.
While Thomas and Mesker combined for just six points, each hit a three that could not have come at a more opportune time.
Both long-range shots came in the final four minutes, leading Perrysburg to a hard-fought 50-46 win over the Wildcats.
Perrysburg is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NLL, while Napoleon is 0-3, 0-2.

While greatly undersized, under-experienced, and out-shot 52 percent to 33 percent from the field, the Bowling Green Bobcats fell to the Springfield Blue Devils by a deceivingly close 65-48 verdict.
BG falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Northern Lakes League. Springfield, considered one of the favorites to claim the NLL title, stands 2-0, 1-0.  PHOTO GALLERY
Even with Springfield starting two 6-foot-8 players in senior Chad Roy (14 points and 10 rebounds)  and junior Demajeo Wiggins (12 points and 10 rebounds), BG took a hard fought 30-25 margin into the half even though it had just one player, 6-foot-2 senior Cam Carsey, over 6 feet tall on the court. Even so, the Bobcats surrendered just four offensive rebounds in each half. Overall, the Blue Devils won the boards, 38-19 as BG claimed just three offensive rebounds.
“We tried to limit them to one shot,” said BG coach Mark Malinowski. “I commend our guys for that. I thought we did a pretty good job of putting some bodies on people and rebounding the basketball as well as we could with our size.”
