MILLBURY — Lake and Rossford — the biggest Northern Buckeye Conference game to date came down to the wire as expected.
Both teams had one conference loss, and both were vying to sit atop the standings alone.  PHOTO GALLERY
It lived up to every expectation imaginable.
Lake let a 25-point second-half lead dwindle to three, but the Flyers, led by Connor Bowen, out-lasted the Bulldogs 75-69 in an NBC thriller Tuesday night.
“When you tell the kids you’re up 25, then shots don’t start to fall,” Lake coach Ryan Bowen said. “(Rossford) starts making some big shots and before you know it you’re in a game. But at least our kids stayed consistent and battled and got ourselves a pretty tough win.
“I told our coaches, ‘Our kids won the first half, our coaches had to win the second half,’” coach Bowen said. “And we almost blew it for them because we did some pretty dumb things in the second half.”

PERRYSBURG — Perrysburg’s boys basketball team had opportunities to seal its Northern Lakes League championship fate on Tuesday, but the Yellow Jackets failed to capitalize in a 50-49 loss to Anthony Wayne.
Perrysburg, ranked sixth in the latest Division I state poll, dropped to 10-2 in the NLL and 17-2 overall. Four teams —  Perrysburg, Springfield, Southview and Anthony Wayne, all remain in the hunt for the league title with two games remaining in league play.
“Both teams had chances tonight to take control of the game and neither team really did,” said Perrysburg coach Dave Boyce.
“I think the difference in the game was with the 50-50 plays,” Boyce continued. “We didn’t capitalize on deflections and loose balls and they got a bunch of offensive rebounds.”
With 2:24 remaining, it seemed Perrysburg had grabbed the momentum for good with a 3-pointer by Matt Mesker putting the ‘Jackets up 47-45. Nick Moschetti pushed the lead to 49-45 with two free throws with a minute remaining.
But a Matt Fox 3-pointer, his fifth of the game, followed by a Hunter Johnson layup with 19 seconds remaining, gave AW a 50-49 lead, while delivering a crushing blow to Perrysburg.
The ‘Jackets had a chance to score on a layup and a second shot off an offensive rebound, but neither shot would fall.
Nate Patterson paced Perrysburg with 16 points. Moschetti added 13 and Matt Kaczinski had 10.

Bowling Green had two chances for potential game-winning shots in the final 10 seconds on 3-pointers Tuesday, but neither shot would fall allowing Napoleon to escape with a 52-50 Northern Lakes League victory.
BG’s final chance was a three-quarter court heave by LaMonta´ Stone, that hit the backboard just to the right of the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Just seconds before Stone’s miss, Aidan Markey missed a 3-pointer from the right wing.
BG head coach Mark Malinowski was hoping one of the threes would fall for the Bobcats, who dropped a 41-40 decision at Napoleon on Jan. 11 when Blake Dunbar hit a 3-pointer as time expired.
‘‘We could never just get quite over the hump ... We didn’t do the little things,’’ Malinowski said.
Rebounding was BG’s biggest problem. Napoleon held a 42-24 rebounding edge and the Wildcats had 14 offensive rebounds to just two for the Bobcats.
