Phillip Rich’s goal 13 seconds into overtime Tuesday gave Bowling Green a 6-5 win over Findlay in a
Northwest Hockey Conference Red Division game at the Ice Arena.
Rich scored after Findlay sent the game into the extra period on A.J. Bishop’s 6-on-4 power-play goal
with the extra attacker with just 21.4 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Bobcats improved to 14-9-1 overall and 3-3 in the NHC. BG was among the teams receiving votes in this
week’s state poll.
Findlay is 14-11, 1-4-1.
BG played sporadically well against Findlay in a physical game that saw 18 penalties and eight power-play
attempts. The Bobcats scored twice on the power play, while Findlay had three man-advantage goals.
BG’s Tanner Fausnaugh and Findlay’s Joe Longo each had 24 saves.
“The key is we persevered,” BG coach Dan DeWitt said. “It was a pretty emotional game like it always is
against Findlay. We had the momentum in the second period and then lost it in the third period, but the
kids battled through all of the ups and downs.
“We’ve created a little bit of confidence. They feel confident in situations like that.”
The Bobcats have won four straight games — two of the victories coming in overtime and the other two
coming with goals in the final minute of regulation.
“We need to play better, but we’re finding ways to win,” DeWitt said.
Grant DeWitt scored twice for BG, and Aaron Crawford, Adam Furnas and Jeremy Chambers had the other
goals.
The Bobcats scored three times late in the second period for a 4-2 lead.
Furnas tied the game 2-2 at 11:15, Chambers gave BG the lead just 14 seconds later and Grant DeWitt
increased BG’s lead to 4-2 at 13:32.
But Findlay rallied to tie the game in the third period on Justan May’s penalty-shot goal at 2:07 and
Brandon Armstrong’s goal at 9:05.
The game remained tied until Grant DeWitt handed BG a 5-4 lead with just 2:07 to play, but Findlay tied
the game in the final minute.
The Bobcats finish the regular season with road games against Findlay Friday and Northview Saturday, and
a home game Sunday against Fairview (Pa.).
