Bowling Green won its seventh straight game Sunday, posting a 4-2 win over Fairview (Pa.) in a nonconference high school hockey game at the Ice Arena.
The Bobcats never trailed and went ahead for good when Adam Furnas scored at 59 seconds and 9:23 of the second period to give BG a 3-1 lead. PHOTO GALLERY
BG dominated, finishing with a 52-8 edge in shots.
The Bobcats finished the regular season 17-9-1 overall, their first winning season since 2009 when they were 16-9-2.
BG was playing its sixth game in nine days.
Five of BG’s seven straight wins were by one goal, and a sixth was a two-goal game that came on an empty-net goal with just over a minute to play that accounted for the final two goal margin.
“Our kids are running on fumes right now,” BG coach Dan DeWitt said. “They’re emotionally and physically tired, but they figured it out and found a way to win today.”
Brock Powers and Aaron Crawford had the other BG goals, and Tanner Fausnaugh made six saves.
The Bobcats begin district tournament play Friday night at 8 against Ottawa Hills at Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter.
OH is 0-9 in the Northwest Hockey Conference White Division. The Green Bears have been out-scored 96-2 in those nine games.
