TONTOGANY — Perrysburg’s offense flourished in a Division I district semifinal against Lima Senior on Thursday night.
The Yellow Jackets, on the heels of huge games from Sarah Baer and Allex Brown, were 79-64 winners over the Spartans at Otsego High School.
Baer and Brown, both 6-foot-1, combined for 46 points and 21 rebounds helping the ’Jackets to the district final for the fifth time in six years.

Baer paced Perrysburg early scoring its first eight points of the game in a span of 2:55. Baer finished with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. She also accumulated multiple assists and two blocked shots.
Brown came off the bench to add 22 points and 11 rebounds, as the two posts dominated the paint throughout.
“It’s awesome,” Baer said of having Brown inside to complement each other. “I love playing with her and Maddy Perry. We connect really well. We just know where we’re at the whole time on the court. We know where each other is at so we can easily pass the ball to each other.”
The majority of Perrysburg’s points came inside thanks to its up-tempo transition offense. Of the ’Jackets’ 29 field goals, 26 of them came from 2-point range.
“We talked the last couple days in practice, how much better inside we thought we were than they were,” said Perrysburg head coach Todd Sims. “I even talked to their coach (Vince Halliday) before the game and that’s their weakness, is a little bit of size.”
The Spartans’ tallest starter was Shaquayla Johnson at 5-7.
The ’Jackets came out at a blistering pace, out-scoring LS 29-17 in the first quarter. Perrysburg led by as many as 21 points, when it was 50-39 early in the third quarter.
The closest the Spartans got was 52-41 with 4:16 to play in the third.
Perrysburg collected 11 offensive rebounds as a team, with Baer and Brown accounting for nine of those. The ability to record the offensive boards stopped the Spartans from making any serious runs during the contest.
“It really came down to offensive rebounds or offensive rebounds and getting fouled,” Sims said. “That’s why we stopped those runs, because of our inside game.”
Perrysburg was 9-of-12 from the free-throw line with Brown going 6-for-7.
“This was one of the best games we’ve played so far,” Baer said. “We all hustled as hard as we could and it felt awesome.”
The Spartans’ pressing defense was some of the most aggressive Perrysburg has seen all season.
But the ’Jackets, though they did commit 15 turnovers, did not appear to be rattled by such pressure. Their guards handled the ball well all night and made key passes inside to connect for simple baskets.
“Against quick teams like this we have to play north to south,” Sims said. “Meaning basket to basket. If you play sideways against those teams, they steal the ball or they deflect the ball.”
Baer began the second half with a quick bucket inside giving Perrysburg a 47-27 lead. Following two LS free throws, Lindy DeLong gave the ’Jackets their biggest lead of the game with a triple from the right wing, making it 50-29. DeLong finished with 12 points.
The Spartans closed the gap to 56-43 late in the third but Baer and Brown closed the quarter on a 6-2 run to give the ’Jackets a 62-45 lead going into the fourth.
“Our gameplan was to do what we do,” Sims said. “We ran ... We weren’t ever thinking about not pressing them because of their speed. Because we have speed too. That’s our strength, is transition.”
Perrysburg plays Ashland in the district final on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Liberty-Benton High School.
