Way Library to celebrate Earth Week

PERRYSBURG – Way Public Library will be hosting two programs – one on composting and the other on rain
barrels and gardens – in celebration of Earth Week April 21-25.
Both programs are free and open to the public.
• Compost workshop – April 22
The public is invited to join Vicki Gallagher, 577 Horticulturalist, and Judy Hagen, City of Perrysburg
Storm Water Management Educator for an informative program on composting. The women will teach those
attending how to make compost from your table scraps and garden debris. They will also instruct on the
basics of composting to make one’s own garden fertilizer and compost tea.
Small scale composting with worms (vermicomposting) all the way to large scale garden composting will be
discussed. This program will begin at 7 p.m.
• Rain gardens and barrels – April 24
Discover rain gardens and their role in storm water management on April 24 at 7 p.m.
Rain gardens provide habitat for wildlife, absorb more rain water than a traditional lawn while removing
pollutants from storm water and recharges the ground water. Those attending will learn how rain gardens,
rain barrels and rain chains can enhance their landscape. This workshop will cover site selection, plant
selection, and installation and maintenance considerations. Gallagher and Hagen will again be the
presenters.
Both events will be held at the library, 101 E Indiana Ave., Perrysburg.
