Society hosts plant sale

PERRYBURG – On May 18, the Black Swamp Hosta and Daylily Society will host its 18th annual
plant sale at Walt Churchill’s Supermarket parking lot at 26625 N. Dixie Highway, (Ohio Route 25. The
sale will begin at 8 a.m. and run until sold out or 1 p.m., whichever occurs first. The sale will be
held rain or shine.Organizers suggest to get there early for the best selection of hostas, daylilies,
ferns, wildflowers, companion perennial plants, grasses, and more. All plants are from the society’s
members’ gardens, and are offered at very reasonable prices.Proceeds from the sale allow the society to
continue its sponsorship of national display gardens at Toledo Botanical Garden, 577 Foundation in
Perrysburg, Simpson Garden Park in Bowling Green, and gardens at Perrysburg Senior Center.The library
project provides newly released books on hostas and daylilies to 19 libraries. Members will be on hand
to answer any questions visitors may have. The group is affiliated with the daylily and hosta national
societies and urges its more than 100 members to join one or both.Founded in March, 1995, the Black
Swamp Hosta and Daylily Society is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, encourage, and
foster the development and improvement of the genera Hosta and Hemerocallis.The society meets throughout
the year at the Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Drive, Toledo. Membership is $10 per garden per
calendar year. The programs vary and the group holds annual tours of members’ gardens and a winter
luncheon/dinner meeting with a special nationally known speaker.During the summer, the organization
holds either a hosta show or a daylily expo to share their love for these cultivars. The society will be
having an accredited American Hosta Society hosta show June 23, at Toledo Botanical Garden.
