Artists include origami, clay leaf impressions, gourd decorating, sea glass jewelry, purse making, steel artwork, and a local talent, Jan Pugh of Packer Creek Pottery in Genoa, will also be in attendance.
Kids are invited to plant a flower for mom with Schedel Assistant Grounds Superintendent, Kendra Schwartz. The children are invited to create a special keepsake for mom this Mother's Day. Gates close at 4 p.m., with regular admission prices.
On Mother's Day (May 13) mothers are invited to visit free of admission between noon and 4 p.m. Regular admission will apply to all other visitors.
In addition to garden tours, the Brown Welcome Center will also be open. An exhibit of 12 handcrafted quilts will be displayed by the members of the Quilt Foundry Guild in the MacAlear Gallery located in the Brown Welcome Center. The exhibit will run for the entire season, May 1 through Oct. 31. The Quilt Foundry Guild has existed for nearly 20 years and has approximately 20 members. The group meets each Wednesday morning at the Quilt Foundry in Maumee.
Quilts made by the Guild are donated to support local charities including the Black Swamp Benefit sale for the Sunshine Children's Home, the Mennonite Central Committee and Project Linus for sick and needy children.
Members regularly conduct workshops to promote the art of quilting and issue challenges to one another for the creation of special projects.
In addition to the events on Mother's Day weekend events, the popular gardens will be holding a variety of other upcoming events including valuable workshops and entertaining events.
On May 23, "Container Gardening" with Cindy Bench of Route 2 Bench's in Curtice will be featured and the annual Garden Wine and Food Festival is set for June 15.
