Despite the severe winter and recent rains, volunteers took to the streets Wednesday morning to add some
vibrant colors by filling the downtown flower beds.
The volunteers included members of the BGSU University Women’s Garden Group.
Sue Wolf and her crew at Wolf’s Blooms and Berries designed the scheme for the plantings this year,
including petunia varieties of Mini Blue, African Sunset and Indian Summer. Compact Electric Orange Sun
Patiens and Royale Chambray Verbena add contrasting texture. Sweet Potato in Margarita and Sweet Heart
Purple provide background while a mix of grasses, begonias and canna lilies add vertical interest in the
centers.
Downtown Bowling Green through its Downtown Foundation is continuing to fund the project which last year
cost more than $13,000 to install and maintain. That is over and above the assets of the volunteer labor
which saves countless dollars.
Tax deductible cash donations for the flowers can be made to the Downtown Foundation at 121 E. Wooster
St.
