WESTON - A fire that heavily damaged two mobile homes and displaced a family of five last week has been ruled an arson.
Chief Randy Tolles of the Weston Fire Department confirmed Monday that the blaze, occurring early May 20, was determined to be arson by the State Fire Marshal.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the incident.
The blaze was initially reported at 1:15 a.m. at the Lawndale Mobile Home Plaza, 13590 Center St.
A shed caught fire and first spread to an unoccupied mobile home, and then spread to the other, occupied by five members of the Steinhart family. One of the family members alerted the rest to the blaze, and all escaped unharmed.
The home was reportedly heavily damaged by the fire, and rendered uninhabitable.
The family was receiving assistance from the Red Cross. An account has been set up at Crogan Colonial Bank, 22973 Defiance Pike, Custar, for donations to assist the family.
The arson is being investigated by the fire marshal, in conjunction with the Wood County Sheriffs' Office.
The investigation is ongoing.
