According to the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Shaina Smith, 24, of Swanton and her passenger, Lindsay Smith, age 5, were both transported to Wood County Hospital by Middleton Fire/EMS for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash report indicates Theodore Dye Jr., 57, of Bridgeport, Conn., was stopped eastbound at the intersection of Ohio 582 and Ohio 64. He was driving a 2012 International tractor trailer; while Smith was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus southbound on Route 64. The accident occurred at approximately 11:11 a.m. Friday.
Dye failed to yield and pulled directly into the path of Smith, striking her vehicle in the left side. After the impact, the Stratus caught fire.
Dye was not injured, but was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign. There were no other passengers in either vehicle. According to the report neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor in the crash.
