The Tower Brass Quintet will offer two local performances of its seasonal concert, Spirit of Christmas Brassed.
It will perform this Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Community of Christ Lutheran Church, 6517 Finzel Road in Whitehouse.
On Dec. 13, the quintet will perform at 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church located at 200 N. Summit St. in Bowling Green.
Christmas Brassed offers a full spectrum of holiday music, including classical and sacred music, brass ensemble arrangements of well-known traditional Christmas carols, and jazz renditions of popular tunes of the season. A preview of the concert can be heard on "Live from FM 91" at 10 a.m. this Friday.
The Tower Brass Quintet has begun celebrating its 33rd season. Although it has built a national reputation, the ensemble's roots are local, having had its beginnings as a graduate brass group at Bowling Green State University in 1979.
After graduating from BGSU and launching their career as a professional chamber music ensemble, the Tower Brass scored international success with a prize-winning performance at the International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Barcs, Hungary, in 1986. They have since gone on to give more than 500 performances in 25 states and have collaborated with several of the world's other premiere brass ensembles, including the London, Budapest, Annapolis and American Brass Quintets.
Tower Brass concerts and recordings have been heard on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, the American Composer's Alliance Series, Voice of America, Hungarian State Radio and WNCN in New York. Additionally, they have performed twice on WGTE's Live from FM 91 Program.
The Tower Brass Quintet has released nine recordings, including the holiday compact discs Snowed in …Again, and Emma's Christmas, now in its second pressing.
More information on the Tower Brass can be found at TowerBrassQuintet.com or facebook.com/TowerBrass. The Tower Brass Quintet is represented by Parsons Artists Management of Highland Park, Ill.
Members of the Tower Brass Quintet are Dan Saygers, trombone; Bernice Schwartz, horn; David Saygers, tuba; and Charles Saenz and Brian Bushong, trumpets.
