PERRYSBURG – Staff Sgt. Bradley Hart, who died following a noncombat incident in Africa Thursday, was a
student at Perrysburg High School and Penta Career Center prior to pursuing his military career.
He was the son of Charles and Darlene Hart, Perrysburg.
Speaking Tuesday afternoon, Hart’s mother said her son was a 2003 graduate of the schools, studying in
Penta’s auto-tech program. She said he enjoyed mechanical things and took his ability in that area into
the military. Hart, 25, was also a four-year member of the high school marching band.
He additionally leaves behind his wife, Katy, who lives in Ft. Bragg, N.C.; two brothers, Travis Powell,
also Sergeant First Class at Ft. Bragg, and Curtis Hart, Perrysburg; and three sisters, Tammy, Susie,
and Sarah Hart, all of Perrysburg.
According to information provided by the Department of Army Public Affairs Office, Hart died Thursday at
Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, on the Horn of Africa, and was found deceased in his quarters. The
Associated Press reported that he was injured in a noncombat incident.
Hart entered the Army in November of 2002 with a delayed entry, reporting for duty in August, 2003. He
served with the 2nd Battalion, 82nd Aviation Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg from 2006 to
2008, and then with the Special Operations Logistic Support Element, Army Special Operations Command at
the fort from 2008 to the present.
Hart was a wheeled vehicle mechanic, maintaining a variety of tactical and armored vehicles. According to
the Public Affairs Office information, the position "is primarily responsible for supervising and
performing maintenance and recovery operations on wheeled vehicles and associated items, as well as
heavy-wheeled vehicles."
Hart was the recipient of a number of awards during his military career, including the Meritorious
Service Medal (awarded posthumously), Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal, and was twice
awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal. He was also awarded a parachutists badge.
