Former Bowling Green State University trustee J. Robert Sebo will soon be awarded an honorary degree from the university.
The BGSU Board of Trustees voted Friday to bestow the honor of a doctorate of business administration to Sebo at the May commencement ceremony.
Sebo earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from BGSU in 1958. He has held executive positions with several businesses and has served the university in a number of roles including trustee from 2002 to 2011.
According to BGSU officials, the honorary degree is fitting recognition for Sebo.
In 2004, Sebo gave BGSU a large donation that funded the construction of a student athletic center. The donation also expanded a business lecture series, enhanced a jazz studies scholarship, and provided support for a PBS documentary.
"Whether helping to recruit students, to providing scholarships and other support, to speaking to youngsters as part of Camp Millionaire, Bob Sebo loves Bowling Green State University," BGSU President Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey wrote. "Much of our current success is, in part, because of his devotion, dedication and commitment to the university. He continually shares his generosity and contagious enthusiasm with countless BGSU students, faculty and staff, and fellow Falcons."
