Search for top health official ongoing

Wood County Health Board members continued their search for a new health commissioner, forming a search
committee and approving a revamped job description Thursday.
Board members have been preparing the search for the last month. Former health commissioner Pamela Butler
submitted her resignation effective June 30 but did not return to her position after resigning June 12.

In addition to a discussion of how the position should be advertised, the board agreed members Frank
McLaughlin, Betty Woods and Fleming Fallon, board president, would first review applications with Brad
Espen and Amy Jones, who are both fulfilling the health commissioner’s duties temporarily.
The position will be posted for internal applicants and also made available on several industry-specific
websites where employees said qualified candidates typically look for jobs.
"For the credentials you have to have per (Ohio Revised Code) in order to be a health commissioner,
most of the people that are aware of those regulations and people that are aware of what the
responsibilities and duties are, are either members of those associations or aware of where to look for
those types of positions," said Trish Factor, an employee who was approved to become accreditation
coordinator on Thursday.
Board member Dallas Ziegler said health board members should each have the opportunity to review
candidates’ qualifications before finalists are chosen to be considered by the full board.
In other business, the board conducted a half-hour executive session with Carrie Leathers-Stanley of the
county prosecutor’s office and several health district employees to discuss pending litigation.
No action followed, and Fallon declined to comment on the matter.
