ROSSFORD -  The chairman of the City Council's ad hoc committee to study Rossford's membership in TARTA urged a wait-and-see approach to the transportation system.
Councilman Mike Scott told council Monday night that it would be best not to ask voters in November whether they wanted to cut ties with the regional transit system.
The committee has contracted with the same firm that studied Perrysburg's transportation needs to look at what kind of public transit is needed in Rossford and how much that may cost. Figures are still coming in.
Scott said that the city has until November, 2013, to vote on whether to exit the system.
"We have time see how TARTA reacts to the various entities pulling out," he said.
One question is whether TARTA would be willing to contract with a non-member community to provide some transportation services.
The cost of providing public transit in Rossford is one of the uncertainties the TARTA committee is grappling with.
So far, Scott said, TARTA seems unwilling to cooperate with Perrysburg which has already decided to leave.
TARTA is seeking to collect more from Perrysburg than the city thinks is reasonable, and did not bid to provide transit services there.
Councilman Robert Ruse said that voters would have to decide two questions when the issue does go to the ballot.
One would be whether to leave TARTA, and the other would be whether to provide funding for a new city transit system.

Perhaps Rossford is not interested in abandoning the Elderly, Disabled and those that can't afford the Car culture.
