Bowling Green Fourth Ward Council Member Greg Robinette has submitted his resignation, effective Tuesday.
He earlier took a leave of absence from council.
Robinette commands the 371st Sustainment Brigade of the Ohio National Guard, which is based in Springfield. Approximately 200 members deployed in late April for duty in Kuwait.
Robinette's letter is dated Friday and was addressed to Council President John Zanfardino.
"I deeply regret that my duties as a mobilized Army Officer render me unable to complete the term to which the voters of the Fourth Ward elected me. And it is unfortunate that the citizens of the Fourth Ward will not be represented by a member they elected. But despite earlier uncertainty, it is now clear that I will be away from Bowling Green for the remainder of 2013," Robinette wrote.
"I urge city council to set partisan politics aside, allow the electoral process to work, and appoint as my replacement an interested resident chosen from the great many citizens of the Fourth Ward who are not currently on the November ballot. The citizens of the Fourth Ward deserve no less," Robinette wrote.
Council meets tonight but will be unable to take any action because the resignation is not effective until Tuesday.
