The Memorial Day Parade leaves the Federal Building parking lot at South Main and Washington streets at
10:30 a.m. Monday. The parade moves north on Main, turns east on Court Street, makes a stop at the Wood
County Courthouse for a brief ceremony and then moves east to Thurstin Street, north to Ridge Street and
then east to Oak Grove Cemetery.
Joseph Fawcett, a two-tour Iraqi Freedom veteran and Assistant Wood County Administrator, will deliver
the address.
Music will be provided by the Bowling Green High School Band. Members of the 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
and 3rd Arkansas Civil War re-enactors will provide rifle salutes. BGSU Air Force ROTC and BGSU Army
ROTC Pershing Rifles will provide color guards.
In case of rain the program will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Building in City Park.
A service will also be held at the Memory Gardens Cemetery on Mitchell Road at 1 p.m.
Custar
The Memorial Day parade will be 1 p.m. Monday, followed by a 1:30 p.m. service in the Milton Township
Cemetery. The Bowling Green High School band will be featured.
In case of rain, the service will be held in the American Legion Hall. The service is sponsored by the
Custar American Legion Post 305.
Dowling
Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery at Carter and Dowling roads, Monday
at 9 a.m.
Troy-Webster American Legion Post 240 will present a wreath and colors at 9:30 a.m.
Grand Rapids
A memorial church service will be held Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Methodist Church in Grand Rapids.
Alva N. Sidle American Legion and VFW Post 4984 will host the Memorial Day events, starting with a
service at Beaver Creek Cemetery at 9 a.m., featuring speaker Rev. Scott Carman. A program at Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery will be at 9:45 a.m., featuring speaker Rev. Terry Spiess.
Assembly for the parade will be at 10:15 a.m. at Pirate’s Park on Second Street. The parade, featuring
speaker James Carter, will go through the downtown area at 10:30 a.m.
A service at St. Patrick’s Cemetery will be held at 11:30 a.m., with speaker Father David Tscherne.
The placing of the wreath is set for 11:45 a.m. at Legion Post 232. A potluck will follow at noon.
In case of rain, the program will be held at American Legion Post 232 at 10:30 a.m.
Haskins
The Haskins American Legion Post will start its service at 8:45 a.m. at the cemetery. Boy Scout Troop 350
will raise the flag and decorate the graves.
Rev. Jenny Jackson will provide the prayer and Tom Gorman will address the crowd.
A firing squad will be provided by Tontogany American Legion Post 441.
Jerry City
A parade will kick off this year’s Memorial Day observance at 10:45 a.m. Units will march to the Jerry
City Cemetery where at 11 a.m., those gathered will participate in the annual Memorial Day observance.

This year’s guest speaker will be United States Army Captain Louis Belluomini. A salute to the Jerry City
veterans will be given by Walt Chambers Jr. Roll call of those interred at Jerry City and Mt. Zion
Cemetery who have served the country will be done by Rose Chambers.
Performing will be the Elmwood High School Band. Jared Schramm and Madison Arnold will play taps.
Lake Township
The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m., ending at the cemetery. There will be a fly-over and music by the
Lake High School Band. Walbridge police officer Tyler Swerlein will talk about his military service.
North Baltimore
The parade will start at 9 a.m. at the fire hall, then travel to Old Maplewood Cemetery. A potluck will
follow at American Legion Post 539.
Pemberville
The parade starts at 9:30 a.m., marching to the Legion Hall where a program will be held inside at 10
a.m. Bridgette Clark from the United Methodist Church will officiate. The speaker will be Lt. Col.
Michael A. Hrynciw from the 200th Red Horse squadron at Camp Perry.
Perrysburg
A parade organized by the American Legion will begin at 10 a.m. Monday on Louisiana Avenue. The route
will lead down Louisiana and turn left on Front Street, ending at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery, where a
ceremony will be conducted.
Rossford
Ceremonies will be held starting at 1:30 p.m. The parade will assemble at the Edward Ford Memorial on
Dixie Highway.
Rudolph
Liberty Township will hold its Memorial Day service at 8:45 a.m. at the Rudolph Cemetery.
Scotch Ridge
A placing of the wreath and salute ceremony will be conducted at 9 a.m. by Troy Webster Post 240 American
Legion.
Tontogany
The memorial church service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
The Washington Township Memorial Day program on Monday at American Legion Post 441 will start at 10 a.m.
There will be a flag raising, decorating of marker stones, firing squad and taps.
The parade will move out at 10:15 a.m., and will include several veterans organizations, Scouts, the fire
department and decorated bicycles and floats.
A program is then planned at Tontogany Cemetery, featuring an address by State Sen. Randy Gardner,
R-Bowling Green.
Upon return to the American Legion, a flag retirement ceremony will be led by Scouts.
Sons of the American Legion will judge decorated bicycles, tricycles and floats.
A community potluck is planned in the Legion Hall after the bicycle judging.
In case of rain, the program will be held inside the American Legion Hall.
Weston
The parade will leave from in front of American Legion Post 409 on Main Street at 1 p.m. and proceed to
Weston Cemetery for the service. In the event of rain, the service will be held at the post at 1 p.m.

On the airwaves
Monday’s "The Morning Show with Larry Weiss" will feature a special edition of the show
dedicated to the armed forces. During the program, which runs from 6 to 9 a.m., there will be a musical
tribute to each branch of the armed forces; special stories and memories about the meaning of Memorial
Day; historic sound bytes of Memorial Day speeches given by Presidents John F. Kennedy and George W.
Bush; patriotic music ranging from Sousa marches to local singer Abby Paskvan; and three veterans, Herb
Dettmer, Dave Ridenour and Ted Jenkins, will be in the studio to talk about their thoughts on Memorial
Day.
