PERRYSBURG - The Diamond Crystal Brands plant in Perrysburg Township will be closing this summer, affecting approximately 130 workers.
The facility is located at 30600 Oregon Road.
The announcement was made by Diamond Crystal's parent company, Hormel Foods, during a conference call to discuss quarterly earnings.
Hormel CEO Jeffrey Ettinger said that an agreement through which Diamond Crystal sells Splenda Sweetener is coming to a close at the end of June, necessitating the closure of the plant.
"We also regret to report that this loss of business will necessitate Diamond Crystal's closing of its Perrysburg, Ohio, plant," he said, according to a transcript of the conference call.
"Diamond Crystal will be offering severance payments and priority status for employment opportunities at their other facilities to those impacted by this action."
The plant is one of 40 manufacturing and distribution facilities for Diamond Crystal Brands, which is owned by Hormel Foods and manufactures sugar, other condiments, and beverage mixes among other products. With this plant closure, only one other such facility, in Dayton, will be left in Ohio.
Representatives of Diamond Crystal and Hormel could not be immediately reached for comment this morning.
