Perrysburg Twp. turns down road request

LIME CITY – Perrysburg Township trustees Wednesday rejected a company’s request for a road study.
The request for a study of possibility of improving and creating a public road within the Ampoint
Industrial Park was submitted by Hinkle Manufacturing, located in the Ampoint Industrial Park.
Hinkle, which owns several facilities in Ampoint, requested an engineering study to extend D Street, said
Walt Celley, township administrator. Celley said the company offered to share in the cost of the
project.
The proposal quickly drew the ire of trustee Gary Britten, who said the township should not fund any
portion of the request.
"That isn’t up to the government to build that road for them," Britten said. "They need to
have testing done, they need to have an engineering study done, and it will need to fit the county
standards."
"Perrysburg Township should not pay a nickel for that."
Also Wednesday, trustees approved the retirement and rehire of Kraig Gottfried, the township’s
maintenance supervisor.
Gottfried will retire effective April 30 and be rehired at the starting pay for a maintenance department
employee on May 1.
A longtime employee of the department, he currently earns about $69,000 a year. After this month, his
salary will be just short of $55,000 annually.
Additionally approved was the retirement of police officer Guy Pinson, a 24-year veteran of the township
department.
Trustees also:
• Set public hearings including 6 p.m. May 7 for the 2014 zoning initiative, and 6 p.m. May 13 for
rezoning of five parcels totaling 94 acres, requested to be changed from A-2 Agricultural to I-2
Industrial zoning. Earlier this week, the township’s Zoning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend against
the change. The area is designated for residential use in the township’s 2010 master plan.
• Approved firefighters to attend educational courses through a consortium at Owens Community College.
Chief Tom Brice said the regional training classes are a good value at $500 for four seats, with a new
subject offered each month.
• Heard from Celley that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources relayed that a groundwater study will
take another six to eight weeks in the application for a mining permit by Wylie and Sons. The township
submitted an objection last year to the permit to be considered by ODNR.
• Approved the purchase of a keyless-entry system for the property room door in the police department.
The cost is $1,775.87.
• Approved a contract for road sweeping three times during the summer at a total of $7,200.
• Entered executive session to discuss employee compensation and discipline, as well as the terms of
Gottfried’s retirement and rehiring.
