LIME CITY - Two expiring Perrysburg Township fire levies will likely be placed on the May 2014 ballot.
The matter was discussed during a meeting of the township department heads Wednesday afternoon.
The two levies, one a 1-mill levy and the other a 2-mill, were last approved in 2009 and will be expiring at the end of 2014. Combined, the levies raise about $1.4 million for the fire department.
The township had the option of putting the levies on the ballot this November, next May, or November 2014.
Fire Chief Tom Brice, at Wednesday's meeting, said that while he didn't have a strong preference, he leaned towards putting the matters before voters in May of 2014.
It was determined that the trustees would revisit the issue as that date drew nearer.
The department also receives revenue from a continuing 1-mill EMS-only levy, and a continuing 4-mill fire/EMS levy.
In other business, the group heard from Tom and Dave Hufford, who have been cleaning up Hufford Cemetery, located at Avenue Road and Wyandot Place, just east of Perrysburg, for sometime. The land for the cemetery was donated by their great-great-great-grandfather, who is one of 23 people reportedly buried there. However, few tombstones remain - possibly, Tom Hufford said, the result of the stones being moved at some point for mowing purposes - and it is not clear where the graves are located. No one has been buried in the cemetery since 1937.
Hufford came to the meeting asking for permission to continue caretaking at the site, and noted he was not asking for township funds to do so.
The trustees gave their assent.
The trustees additionally accepted the resignation of Township Police officer Eric Brown, who is currently on worker's compensation due to an injury.
