PERRYSBURG – It’s so far, so good for Perrysburg Transit. The re-started public transportation
system revved it’s engines officially Monday, and all systems seem to be "go.""Absolutely
positively couldn’t have been a better start-up," said Chris Leighty, Perrysburg Transit’s general
manager."Everything went off without a hitch. Everyone was on time and extremely happy to have
transportation back in Perrysburg."The service, run by St. Louis-based transit firm Ride Right LLC,
currently offers ADA paratransit service as well as call-a-ride options. While a limited commuter service
was originally envisioned, currently there is no such route in place officially, but Leighty said the
service is open for all residents to use.About 20 people made use of the service on Monday, which mimics the
average ridership of 20 to 30 when Ride Right provided temporary service to the city last fall."We
think it’ll build again," Leighty said.Currently three minivan-like vehicles are being used. This is the
first return of public transportation to the city since the end of November, when Ride Right was forced to
pull out of the city after a 1.45-mill transit levy failed.A five-year, 0.8-mill levy was overwhelmingly
approved by residents in May, allowing the service to begin again.Rachel Johnson, media liaison for
grass-roots transit organization Go Perrysburg, said she too had heard positives from riders."I heard
from a couple riders that everything went really smooth, and they were happy with the service, and everyone
was in a great mood (Monday)."
