Perrysburg plans roadwork (7-9-14)

PERRYSBURG – Improvements to one of the city’s busiest intersections are expected to begin next week.
Widening the roadway and adding turn lanes to Eckel Junction Road and Ohio 25 starting Monday is expected
to help alleviate current and expected congestion near where Costco is planning to build a
154,000-square-foot retail store next year.
The $2.25 million cost of the project is being passed on to businesses that contribute to traffic at the
intersection. Mercy has paid $350,000, while Costco’s share is estimated at around $500,000, said City
Administrator Bridgette Kabat.
Also to contribute are Tolson Plaza being developed at the northeast corner, and vacant properties nearby
that may be developed in the future.
"The plan is to assess future costs to businesses that locate there," Kabat said. "Whether
Costco does or does not come, that property gets assessed."
Dollar amounts for other shares of the project will be based on traffic studies and were not immediately
available.
