A Perrysburg man pleaded guilty to charges including vehicular homicide Monday in the 2011 death of a Bradner woman.
Justin D. Shane, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of operating a vehicle while under the influence in the court of Wood County Judge Alan Mayberry.
As the result of a plea agreement, the vehicular homicide count was reduced from a first-degree felony to a second-degree felony.
The plea stems from an Aug. 29, 2012, incident. According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Shane was westbound on Dowling Road at a high rate of speed when his vehicle went off the north side of the road, crossed Carter Road and struck a tree.
The crash killed his passenger, Crystal L. McLaughlin, Bradner, who was 31 years old.
According to assistant prosecuting attorney Aram Ohanian, Shane had a blood-alcohol level of 0.198 at the time of the crash. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
"The reckless driving was the proximate cause of her death," said Ohanian, as he discussed evidence that would have been brought had the case gone to trial.
Shane could face as much as an eight-year prison sentence and a $15,000 fine on the vehicular homicide count.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
