Penta wants traffic circles

PERRYSBURG – Penta Career Center has picked its option for roundabout plans near the school.
At its meeting Wednesday, the board unanimously approved "Alternate C" which provides for a
one-lane roundabout at the intersection of Lime City and Buck roads, as well as in front of the career
center on Buck Road.
Superintendent Ron Matter said the parties involved – the Wood County Engineer, the City of Rossford,
Perrysburg Township and the Rossford Transportation Improvement District – will discuss the shared costs
as the project progresses.
Penta will donate land for the project, which is estimated to be completed in 2016 or after.
Improvements are needed because of congestion during certain times of the day in the area just west of
Interstate 75.
Rossford’s plan is to acquire the right of way on three corners of the intersection. Penta is located in
Perrysburg Township on the fourth corner. It will provide the land needed there as well as $150,000 in
cash.
An earlier proposal was for a two-lane roundabout at both locations.
In June 2012, a new traffic study was conducted; in October 2013, Penta paid one-fifth the cost of the
engineer’s study.
Including right of way acquisition, Alternate C is estimated to cost $2.3 million, according to numbers
shared at a Rossford Council meeting earlier this week.
Both Rossford and Perrysburg Township have also indicated a preference for the two roundabout solution.

Also at the meeting, the board considered a proposal from Habitat of Humanity of Wood County to partner
with Penta on a new-home build in Rossford. The home would be built by construction trades students at
no cost for labor. The house would be about 1,500 square feet.
Board members also heard a request from John Stasa, whose 12th child will graduate from Penta this month.

Stasa would like the board to add a prayer into the graduation ceremony.
"We need to give these kids a prayer," said Stasa, who is Roman Catholic. "We need to do
more than educate them in a trade."
Matter said after the meeting that a moment of silence, or a moment of reflection, could be added, but
not a prayer.
With 16 school districts, he needs to consider 16 sets of values.
However, if a student speaker decides to add a prayer, that will be allowed under Freedom of Speech, he
said.
