PEMBERVILLE - Village council is planning a road trip.
Following up on a suggestion during a recent meeting of the village's Streets and Bridges Committee, council member William Long has asked members to be ready July 16 to develop a list of concerns for a village tour.
"We all see different parts of the community. It might be good for us as a group to take a tour for a closer look. We should each bring something specific for us to look at. At the next meeting we can put together a list and either set a special meeting or do it as a regular meeting," Long said.
"I think that's a fine idea," Mayor Gordon Bowman said.
"This should not be seen as a hit list, but as a way to help all of us see things we might not always see," council member Eric Campbell said.
Transportation for council members and village officials would need to be arranged, but golf carts were suggested. Bowman said he would make his available.
Council also:
• Learned three grant applications have been submitted to the Wood County Park District. The grants would help resurface the village tennis courts ($5,688); start a parking lot at the northwest park ($8,665) and purchase chairs and umbrellas for the pool ($2,704). The village would be required to make a 10 percent match on each approved grant.
• Heard the Pemberville garage sale will be July 20.
• Heard about apparent vandalism at the village restroom.
• Discussed concerns about private use of public sidewalks and streets, especially in the downtown area, vehicles being parked for long periods of time in public areas and residents parking cars that block sidewalks and parking vehicles over curbs. Bowman said he would speak to residents about problems if council members refer specific concerns to him.
• Set a meeting of the Finance Committee for July 10 at 7 p.m. to discuss quotes for insurance.
