Owens Community College's Presidential Search Committee has announced four finalists for the post of president.
The national search to replace former president Larry McDougle, who stepped down last year, began with a field of 67 applicants.
The four finalists are: Dr. Mike Bower, president of Lake Region State College, in Devils Lake, N.D.;  Dr. Dorey Diab , Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Stark State College, Canton; Dr. Randall Miller, the Senior Consultant to the Chancellor of the Wayne County Community College District, Detroit; and Dr. Maureen Murphy, president of the San Jacinto College District, Houston, Texas, Bower has served as president of Lake Region State College, in Devils Lake, N.D., since 2008 and prior to that held the position of Executive Dean for Extension Campuses/Continuing Education/Corporate Services at Mott Community College, Flint, Mich., from 2004 to 2008.
Among his accomplishments while at Lake Region, Bower led the development of a Wind Energy Technician Program and helped secure appropriations for a $4.8 million technology center expansion and renovation for nursing, optimized agriculture, simulator electronics, automotive and wind programs.
Diab has served as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Stark State College, Canton, since 2009, and immediately prior to that was Vice President for Academic Affairs at Rhodes State College, Lima, from 2006 to 2009.
While at Stark State, Diab helped establish a series of new programs and certificates including an Associate of Science Degree with concentrations in such areas as mathematics, dental assisting, and computational science (biology); increased dual-enrollment and sectional offerings; and led a successful strategic planning process.
Miller has served as the Senior Consultant to the Chancellor of the Wayne County Community College District, Detroit, Mich., since 2009 and immediately prior to that was president of Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Mich.
While with Lake Michigan, Miller raised funds to build a state-of-the-art Medical Imaging Center, and to renovate the main campus' science labs. Under his administration, the college's finances were stabilized, and new advanced degree programs were founded in partnership with other institutions, including Bachelors of Science degrees in manufacturing engineering and nursing.
Murphy has served at the president of the San Jacinto College District, Houston, Texas, since 2007. Before that, she was the vice president of instruction and student development of the Virginia Community College System from 2005 to 2007.
While with San Jacinto, Murphy developed and implemented district-wide instructional recovery after Hurricane Ike; reorganized allied, health and sciences programs as well as college preparatory studies; and implemented "2+2" programming with Texas A&M, Galveston, in Marine Administration, with courses taught on the SJCS campus.
Interviews of the four finalists will be later this week. Later they will be invited to the campus for open forums with the public.
The board of trustees is working with the global firm Heidrick & Struggles International Inc. to conduct the search.
