owens_storyOwens Community College President Christa Adams, Ph.D., Thursday announced plans to retire Dec. 31, 2010.

The announcement was made in an e-mail to the college staff.

Adams became the fourth president of Owens in July 2001.

She has focused on strengthening the college's relationships within its communities in Northwest Ohio. Enrollment has increased substantially, academic programs have expanded to meet business and industry needs and various capital improvement projects have been completed.

Previously,  Adams was president of St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Mich.

She is on the boards of the National Governors' Association Pathways to Advancement policy academy and the Regional Growth Partnership of Northwest Ohio Executive Committee.

Adams earned her doctorate in community college administration/vocational education from Colorado State University. A resident of Perrysburg, she holds master's and bachelor's degrees in English from the University of Northern Colorado.
