TONTOGANY - The Otsego School District has approved the sale of Grand Rapids Elementary to that village.
"We passed the purchase and sale contract 5-0," said Superintendent Adam Koch. The school board approved the measure at Tuesday night's meeting.
Under the agreement, the school, located at 17595 Bridge Street, is to undergo asbestos removal this summer, and will then be demolished at district expense. The site will be graded, and grass planted.
The village of Grand Rapids is to subsequently purchase the property, including approximately 6.5 acres, for a sum equal to the price of demolition, but not to exceed $41,000.
This is Otsego School District's latest effort to divest itself of outmoded school buildings. Similar purchase agreements for the Haskins and Weston elementary buildings were also recently approved.

$6300.00 an acre for 6.5 acres is why to cheap. Grand Rapids Village should have paid at least 10K per acre.

Why should the taxpayers have to buy back the property they already paid for and own.
Money was already provided to demolish the buildings after construction of the new schools. Duped by the school board again.
