Otsego approves contract with staff

TONTOGANY – The Otsego school district has inked a new three-year contract with its classified staff.
On July 17, OAPSE Local 469 overwhelmingly ratified the contract. The school board approved the contract
Monday.
"Both parties are very excited to build on their strong relationship during the next three
years," union President Jennifer Asmus stated in a press release dispersed through the school.
The contract calls for index changes for all employees that created equality throughout the OAPSE members
in the first year, and a 1.25-percent salary increase for each of the following two years.
"I am extremely pleased with the agreement with the OAPSE #469 and how we were able to collaborate
to come up with a fair agreement. I believe we have an even stronger relationship than before our
negotiations," said Superintendent Adam Koch.
An insurance change to a Consumer Driven Health Plan and creation of a Health Savings Account will
benefit the district and OAPSE members.
"It will limit our risk for future insurance increases and will save the district a significant
amount of money. The index changes in year one puts our salaries in line with other districts our size.
It also creates equality among the different classifications within the union," Koch continued.
Deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses will increase for the employees while monthly premiums will
decrease significantly as a result of this change.
"I am pleased that an agreement was reached without too much trouble. We worked hard to show the
OAPSE employees that we appreciate their commitment to Otsego, while being fiscally responsible for our
community. This contract is good for all of Otsego; for now and in the future," stated Brad
Anderson, Otsego school board president.
