COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A central Ohio probation officer is reported to be in serious condition after
exchanging gunshots with a man he was trying to arrest.
The suspect was killed in the Thursday confrontation in Columbus.
Police say two Franklin County probation officers tried to take 37-year-old Tyshawn Hancock into custody.
Police say he lunged for a gun and struggled with officer Jonathan Farnsworth.
Shots were fired and the 45-year-old Farnsworth was wounded in the side.
Hancock, accused of violating his probation on a conviction for attempted aggravated assault, died later
at a hospital.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1kcNoxt ) reports that there was no indication that the probation
officers were expecting a violent arrest.
