NORTH BALTIMORE - The school district has hired a new elementary principal, who will be starting Aug. 1.
Scott Lockwood was given a three-year contract at Tuesday's North Baltimore Board of Education meeting.
Lockwood, of Bowling Green, will earn a base salary of $76,500 as principal at Powell Elementary.
He comes from Evergreen Local Schools, in Metamora, where he has been elementary principal since 2005.
Prior to that, he was a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher for five years at the former Haskins Elementary in the Otsego school district.
He also as experience in teaching in Jefferson (Ohio) area schools, Perrysburg school district and for the Wood County Educational Service Center.
He was a police officer in Andover from 1996 to 2001, and a firefighter in Perrysburg from 1991 to 1995.
He earned his bachelor of science in education from Kent State University and his master of education from Marygrove College in Detroit, Mich. He received his principal and superintendent licensure from Bowling Green State University.
He and his wife own and operate housing rentals in Bowling Green and Toledo.
The vote Tuesday was unanimous.
Nineteen applications were received for the job. None were internal candidates.
Superintendent Marlene North and Pam Van Mooy, assistant principal at Powell, have split the duties of principal this year. In the previous two years, Patty Landenberger had served as principal. North had held the post for 18 years prior to that.
In other business, the board also signed a six-month contract with John Newlove Realty to sell its 4.67 acres on Second Street. The brokerage fee is 5 percent.
The land is the site of the district's former middle school/high school.
The property is listed at $159,900.
The property was offered at auction in February, but the board turned down the top bid of $68,000
The board also hired Brynn Chaskel and Abigail Rauch as elementary teachers.
North continues interviewing for at least one more open position.
