Students, staff and visitors to campus will have to take their butts to certain parking lots under a new university smoking policy that took effect this week.
Bowling Green State University passed the measure last June that bans all smoking on campus, with the exception of a handful of designated parking lots. The change went into effect Wednesday, the first day of 2014.
In addition to the designated parking lots, smoking is permitted within personal vehicles.
Lots where smoking is permitted are generally spread throughout campus. A notable shortcoming, however, exists near Doyt Perry Stadium, where Falcon fans gather to watch football games. The nearest designated area is in the Stroh Center parking lot, more than a short walk away from the stadium gates if you're stepping away to have a quick smoke.
Those who obverse problem behavior on campus are encouraged to gently remind anyone seen to be violating the policy.

"Persons observing a violation of this policy should, if feasible, and in a respectful and polite manner, inform the person about this policy by directing their attention to the appropriate signage. Continuing or repeated non-compliance with the policy should not be handled by individuals but should instead be reported to campus authorities including, when appropriate, the BGSU campus police."
Students, faculty and staff caught breaking the new policy will be subject to discipline under the code of conduct. Visitors found in violation may be asked to leave campus and could be subject to prosecution for trespassing, the university states in the policy.
Students breaking the rule can be reported through an online form at Others, including staff and members of the public, should be reported by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
