Sara Bushong, BGSU library associate dean, presents the Friend of the University Libraries Award to Sentinel-Tribune Editor David C. Miller.
For his contributions to the growth and development of libraries at Bowling Green State University, David C. Miller has been given the 2010-2011 Friend of the University Libraries Award.
Miller, editor of the Sentinel-Tribune, was presented the award Wednesday during the Friends of the University Libraries Authors and Artists Recognition Reception at BGSU.
"David Miller is devoted to libraries, as demonstrated by his decades-long service to the public libraries of Ohio," the award nomination stated.
He has served as president of the State Library of Ohio Board and chairman of the Ohio Library Council, the Ohio Library Trustees Association, and the Wood County District Public Library Board of Trustees. As editor, he has written numerous editorials about the value of libraries to communities.
"There is no doubt that Dave's passionate and public support for Ohio's libraries has had a positive impact on Ohio libraries, in general, and has reaped significant benefits for the BGSU libraries as well," the nomination said.
Miller has been a member of the BGSU Libraries Advocates Board since 2004. "Dave has taken his responsibility very seriously, always attending meetings and always contributing well-considered and sound ideas to the deliberations."
According to the nomination form, Miller's professional expertise has helped the University Libraries in countless ways.
"The LAB has benefitted enormously from his perspective, and his astute assessments of the goals and objectives of libraries have certainly made a positive difference in the direction of the U.L."
In addition to his formal duties as a board member, Miller has labored behind the scenes.
"Over the years, he has had countless meetings with deans of the U.L. to discuss the past, present and future of BGSU libraries," the nomination form stated. "He has met with several BGSU presidents to advocate for the university libraries. He has even volunteered to cut cake during National Library Week and hand out Friends of the U.L. literature at Homecoming football games."
