The City of Bowling Green invites the public to a meeting next Thursday to review a proposed walking/biking trail from the BG High School/Middle School campus to the BG Community Center.
The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in classroom A/B at the BG Community Center, 1245 W. Newton Road.
The purpose is to present the trail plan and gain public input on the project.
This trail is part of a larger series of off-road trails that would eventually allow residents to get around the community by foot or bicycle and increase recreational walking, running and jogging options. A trail to the community center was rankedĀ  the No. 1 priority by citizens who responded to the 2010 Recreational Needs Survey.
The trail will be completed in 5 or 6 phases, as funding allows, and each phase is estimated to cost roughly at $25,000. The first phase from the community center to Brim is being built with a grant from Wood County Park District this spring. The entire trail will take several years to complete.

Why in the world would you build phase one before you had input from the community. It is inexcusable to spend 25k before you get any input. So what if some people step up and give wonderful advice? Sounds like your just going to ignore it. I can't see you taking their input into consideration after you have already started the first phase. What's next? You going to build the new city pool, install the water park area and slides and then ask for input from the community????

actually, they passed the levy then had information meetings, asked for input and ignored it, just as you state above. The only modifications were to appease the swim club for whom the pool is being built for any way.

Exactly how many people ranked this as the top priority? So, the city digs up the ground and puts the gravel down before asking for input about the project? And seriously, do we really think any kid is going to walk to the community center from the middle/high school?

This is just timing, they are trying to take the heat off the POOR SIDEWALKS issue. Won't work. That trail is a waste of money, who in their right mind would let little kids walk or ride thier bikes on it alone, not safe .Are you going to pay for patrol, or lighting?

And to make Phase I go from the Community Center to Brim Rd- who is going to start this at Brim Rd??? I realize the idea to build in phases to minimize (hopefully) the cost, but how about starting it somewhere closer to town where it may be more functional.

Grants are grants. They have to be used for that purpose. They don't have to ask the tax payers for their approval on a grant. That's not coming out of your pocket. I see no problem with that. Do kids walk anywhere? No, mommy has to drive them and drop them off. Some one who lives at Stadium View isn't going to walk to BG City park either. One should see how many people are at Wildwood in Toledo, most people frive there to then walk. How many people walk to Wintergarden? Very few, they frive then walk.

Grants are being used now, but when the project is half done and the grants run out, guess who they will be looking to for the addtional money? You guessed it, another tax levy.
