Bail was set at $250,000 Monday for a Custar man accused of shooting a bank contractor in the back outside of his residence.
Thomas Boyer, 53, appeared for a hearing in the courtroom of Wood County Judge Reeve Kelsey. Boyer is charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of felonious assault in the Nov. 20 shooting of William Morris, 42, Rutland, in the 22000 block of Defiance Pike.
The matter before the court Monday was originally scheduled for an arraignment, and bail was set at $250,000, no 10 percent allowed.
The case was continued to April 7 at 1:30 p.m.
Boyer's attorney, William Stephenson, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity for him last month.
Boyer is listed in court records as currently residing at the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital in Toledo.
According to the Wood County Sheriff's Office, Boyer shot Morris in the back once with a shotgun after Morris came to Boyer's residence, which was foreclosed, to determine if it was occupied, and to change the locks and winterize it if it was not.
Morris was wounded and taken to University of Toledo Medical Center, but survived the shooting.
The incident took place just across the street from St. Louis Catholic School, which was placed on lockdown for approximately one hour as a precaution.
