A jury heard testimony Tuesday in the rape, assault and abduction trial of a Perrysburg man.
The case unfolded in the courtroom of Wood County Judge Robert Pollex.
Albert J. Tajblik, 56, was indicted this spring on three counts of rape, one count of felonious assault,
one count of abduction, and one count of disrupting public services in the incident, which allegedly
occurred on April 13 of this year.
The incident involved a woman he reportedly lived with in the Village Green Mobile Home Park on Reitz
Road in Perrysburg Township.
During opening statements, prosecuting attorney Gwen Howe-Gebers said that Tajblik "continually
threatened (the victim) with physical harm" and "forcibly engaged in sexual conduct against
her will."
Tajblik also allegedly refused to allow her to leave the premises and go to work for hours.
"You will see photographs of her bruises, from the defendant holding her down against her
will," said Howe-Gebers.
She also said that the victim did not report the incident to the police until the next day because, in
part, she didn’t want to admit that it happened to her.
Tajblik’s attorney, T. Hamilton Noll, said in his opening statement that the defendant actually refused
sexual relations with the victim that day, and that he put her in bed after coming back to the residence
and finding her intoxicated upon the floor.
Noll also said that the victim did complete her delivery rounds – albeit hours late – and that a rape kit
performed on her at Promedica St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, after she reported the incident on April 14
showed "no tearing, not bruising, no DNA, no semen."
The jury of nine women and four men, including one alternate, heard graphic testimony from the victim,
who said that during a portion of the alleged incident she showed "no emotion. I was staring at the
ceiling, trying to take myself to a different place."
Under cross examination, the defense frequently pointed out that the victim had numerous opportunities to
contact the police or ask other people for help afterwards, but did not.
"I was in total disbelief of what happened," she said.
The defense also brought up questions regarding whether medication the victim takes could react with
alcohol she consumed.
The trial is scheduled to continue today.
