PERRYSBURG – A state air quality agency is “closely monitoring” the struggling Willard & Kelsey solar firm after reported missed loan payments. A recent Associated Press story indicated that the firm did not make its past two quarterly payments on a $5 million loan from the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority. According to the story, the missed payments “violate the loan agreement” and the OAQDA plans to hire an accounting firm to analyze the company. In an email message to the Sentinel-Tribune, Todd Nein, OAQDA’s interim executive director, indicated that the agency “is closely monitoring Willard & Kelsey’s status through on-going conversations with company officials, visits to the facility in (Perrysburg), and an independent assessment from GBQ Partners.
As the company moves forward with immediate business plans, we will continue our discussions with them and stay current on all decisions. As more information is available the Authority Members will decide the future of OAQDA involvement with the company.” The company’s issues with state loans date to earlier this year, when Willard & Kelsey was called to have a status check consultation with the Ohio Department of Development over restructuring and payment of loans.
