(Updated 6-17 8:45 p.m.) WALBRIDGE - Council President Ron Liwo has resigned, six months before his term is complete, citing the increasing demands of the job.
"I find that the position has become more and more demanding of my time," Liwo said by phone Wednesday night.
He said if he couldn't give 100 percent to the council position, he'd prefer to resign.
Liwo was clerk-treasurer for the village after November 2000. He joined council in August 2003 and has been president for a few years. He said he wouldn't rule out serving the public again.
"Perhaps. But if I had to tell you right now, I'd say no."
He is a retired federal employee who worked as a supply technician for the 180th fighter wing. He was also state president for 30 years of the American Federation of Government Employees, which is for civil service technicians.
Liwo said that experience helped him immensely as chairman of the utilities and personnel committee for village council.
"The employees still have, what I consider to be, a Cadillac health insurance policy," he said.
Mayor Dan Wilczynski said Liwo submitted his letter of resignation this morning. Council met Wednesday, but Liwo did not attend.
Wilczynski, who is in Alaska on business, said he will miss working with Liwo.
"It's unfortunate. Ron has been a great colleague and we've all worked well together. It's unfortunate but I certainly respect his decision," Wilczynski said.
