The Woodland Mall is cleaning up after a water issue caused some damage at the site.
The incident occurred on Jan. 7.
"Like many businesses in the area the Woodland Mall was also affected from the frigid cold
temperatures," said Michelle Barton, the mall’s manager, in an email Thursday.
"With sprinkler heads it’s certainly always a touchy thing when temperatures get below the ‘normal’
for this particular season."
Barton went on to note that "prior to the two days of arctic air, the staff and I took all the
precautions that we felt were necessary to ensure that there wouldn’t be any issues (throughout) this
storm. However it seemed to affect the mall anyhow."
Barton indicated that six businesses were affected. In a recent visit to the mall, it appeared the
affected areas were largely in the section of the mall anchored by Dunham’s Sports; several sites had
what looked to be dehumidifiers and fans running in them, including the former Waldenbooks site and
Turning Point United Methodist Church.
One vacant storefront’s front area was piled with full black trash bags, apparently used in the clean-up.

"Although we had some clean up and some drywall repairs, I felt truly blessed to work with the team
from the water restoration company and the helping hands from all of my staff an tenants," said
Barton. "As the dry out phase comes to an end today we will then begin the repair of the drywall
that we decided to cut to ensure a healthy environment for our customers, staff and tenants now and in
the future."
