Habitat for Humanity of Wood County has a new director and plans for another new house.
Jennifer Kephart has been named executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Wood County Ohio, Inc.
Originally from Akron, Kephart now resides in Perrysburg.
Habitat is working on its next project in Wood County, building another home on Poplar Street in North Baltimore.
According to Kephart, the top priority right now for the organization is to find a family to partner with for the home.
Two other homes will be started in Wood County this year, both in the northern end of the county. Partner families have already been found for those homes, Kephart said.
The local Habitat organization is also making an attempt to re-ignite its volunteer base. Anyone interested in volunteering may contact the group at wchabitat.org or (419) 353-5430.
Volunteers are needed for building, plus to serve on various committees or on the board.
In order to raise funds for the group, a garage sale of home goods, such as desks, bookcases, chairs and tables, will be held May 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both the Woodland Mall and the Habitat store, at 425 Napoleon Road, in Bowling Green.
Prior to joining Habitat for Humanity, Kephart worked in business management roles for the past 14 years at companies including Home Depot, EXPO Design Center, The M. Conley Company, Best Buy Distribution, and Info Line, Inc.
At Info Line, a multi-function social service agency, Kephart managed Lifeline service opportunities, volunteer and intern coordination, and community involvement.
In 2009, Kephart received the "Voices for Victims' Award for Outstanding Leadership in Assisting Victims" from the Stark County Prosecutor's Office, in association with the Stark County Victims' Rights Coalition. In 2010, she was a recipient of the "30 for the Future" award by the Greater Akron Chamber.
Kephart said she believes in Habitat's mission.
"A fundamental goal for every family is secure housing," she said.
The program "gives tools and resources so they can survive and be sustainable," she said.
