FOSTORIA - A Toledo man charged with aggravated murder in connection with the shooting of two Fostoria women is awaiting an extradition hearing to be brought back to northwest Ohio after fleeing from police for nearly a day.
Calvin Dixson, 37, initially remained at large Monday morning but was later arrested in Cleveland.
Dixson was wanted after allegedly shooting an ex-girlfriend and her mother while they were sitting in a vehicle on Bannister Street in Fostoria at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Police believed he had fled to either the Cleveland area or Perrysburg, where his mother is a resident.
Fostoria Police Capt. Dan Dell said Dixson was believed to be staying at a camper in Cleveland on Monday when officers saw him drive by. They apprehended Dixson, hiding in the attic of an abandoned building, after a short chase on foot, he said.
Dixson is charged with the slaying of Lisa Stowers, 50. He also allegedly shot her daughter, Tyeesha Ferguson, 36, who was transported by air ambulance to Toledo Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Ferguson is alert and talking, Dell said, though he was unable to comment on whether she had spoken with police. She was last listed in critical condition.
Police believe a 9mm handgun was used in the assault, but it was not recovered in Fostoria.
Dixson recently threatened Ferguson and her family members and appears to have a "history of violent tendencies," Fostoria Police Capt. Patrick Brooks said. Ferguson had obtained a protection order against Dixson, though the reason for their estrangement was unknown, he said.
Dixson currently faces one count of aggravated murder. He remains in Cleveland City Jail awaiting extradition, which could take up to 10 days, according to a Fostoria Municipal Court representative.
