PERRYSBURG - Former Perrysburg Heights Community Association board member and past executive director Anita Serda is wishing the continuing board members success in the future.
Serda spoke to the Sentinel-Tribune Tuesday.
"I'm truly here to state that I think it's great that individuals are going to be stepping forward and doing more for the community, the work," she said, adding later "I think it's great that they have some new ideas."
Serda acknowledged she was voted off the board of trustees during the executive session of a meeting held May 28. Formerly the organizer of the Ohio's South of the Border Festival, presented annually by the PHCA, she said she was asked not to continue in that role after the vote because she could no longer officially represent the board.
Serda addressed an issue, previously stated by PHCA Vice President Steven Kramer, that she had not provided needed contract and donor information regarding the festival to the organization.
"All of that information was verbally provided to Mr. Kramer when I met with him shortly after I was voted off the board," she said, "and I provided him with quite a bit of paper documents and two discs of electronic files so that they would have the information to continue now and move forward."
The PHCA has garnered attention recently due to financial issues that initially drew the board to vote to no longer have paid employees, and to suspend operations at the group's community center. That vote was later rescinded.
Serda's daughter, Stephanie, additionally stepped down recently from her position as executive director and president at the PHCA.
Stephanie Serda clarified that she stepped down over souring interactions with PHCA Treasurer Jason Craig, at least partially stemming from an email exchange between the two.
She further clarified that she was not the first paid employee of the PHCA -- she said that there were paid staff members since the early days of the group. She additionally corrected that Anita Serda, one of the organization's founders, was not the first PHCA executive director, as had previously been reported.
Craig acknowledged the email exchange with Stephanie Serda, but said his working relationship with her was good until the board voted to stop paying employees.
Anita Serda expressed excitement at seeing new generations of parents in the Heights interested in helping fundraise for the organization.
"Those are things that, at least from my perspective, are positive, that the community does want to come together and keep things going."
"We truly wish the current board success," she said later.
"We're telling you whole-heartedly there is no bad intention," regarding the PHCA, she said. "We want this to succeed. It's just been very, very hard. We want to see this torch stay lit. And in no way would I ever have committed so much of my life (to the organization), to destroy it. That's selfish, and I'm not a selfish person."
