FedEx gets tax break

LIME CITY – Trustees granted FedEx a 15-year tax abatement Wednesday as the company works on a $42
million expansion of its Perrysburg Township facility.
The company will receive a 100-percent tax abatement for the planned expansion in the Ampoint Industrial
Park. The abatement was approved 2-0 by trustees Gary Britten and Craig LaHote, with Bob Mack
abstaining.
The project will collectively add 22 full-time jobs and another 145 part-time positions, said Jack
Hilbert of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, the legal firm representing FedEx, which opened the $90
million distribution center in 2009.
Hilbert added that FedEx’s current $13.7 million payroll will be increased by a total of more than $1.8
million after the 93,500-square-foot expansion.
Wade Gottschalk, executive director of Wood County Economic Development, spoke in support of the tax
plan, adding that the business already has agreements to pay Rossford schools and Penta Career Center.

"This is a really big investment for them (FedEx). We think it’s a great thing for Wood County –
having that distribution center here has allowed us to attract other businesses to the county because of
the convenience of getting their packages into their system of deliveries," Gottschalk said.
"We’re certainly appreciative of their investment in the community," LaHote said before voting
in favor of the tax abatement, which must still be approved by Wood County commissioners.
Also Wednesday, the board:
• Approved the final resolutions needed to seek a new, 3-mill police levy and renewals of existing fire
levies of 1 mill and 2 mills.
• Conducted a promotion ceremony for Sgt. Aaron Lentz.
• Approved an automatic-aid agreement between the township fire department and Northwood.
• Heard that the fire department will host its open house on Oct. 11.
