JERRY CITY - The Elmwood School District campus is going tobacco-free. During a special meeting Thursday, Board of Education members, by a 5-0 vote, outlawed tobacco use anywhere on the campus, including the new sports complex. "It's going to be a learning curve, but I think it's the right move for the image we are trying to portray to our kids," said Superintendent Tony Borton. Borton said notification will be sent to community and staff members notifying them of the policy change. There will also be signage posted. "We are going to get rid of the cigarette containers outside the doors and we will have signs there," Borton said. "Enforcement is going to be the biggest headache right off the bat," he said. There were no community members in attendance at the meeting. "For the most part, I don't think you are going to hear a lot of flak," Borton said. Also at the brief special meeting, board members hired Beth Ann Kuntz as a new high school Spanish teacher. Kuntz, a recent graduate of Bluffton University, was selected for the position from a pool of 10 candidates.
