JERRY CITY - Elmwood student athletes will continue to be drug tested this school year. Board of Education members voted 4-0 Monday, with Jeff Chapman absent, to continue the tests, said Superintendent Tony Borton. Previously, athlete drug testing had been paid for at county schools through a grant received by the Wood County Educational Service Center. The grant expired this summer. Borton said board members approved a contract with Great Lakes Biomedical, Perrysburg, to test each athlete at the beginning of their sport season and also to complete random drug testing.
The cost is estimated to be $7,000 a school year, Borton said. Also at Monday's meeting, the athletic boosters gave the district an additional $25,164 to be put toward the new athletic complex. The money will help make payments on the complex, Borton said. Board members also approved the purchase of a 2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty Truck for $21,589 from Thayer Ford, Bowling Green. A snow plow and salt spreader will be mounted on the truck for an additional $6,000 to $7,000, he said.
