A former Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy indicted for the sexual assault of an
inmate has pleaded not guilty to all charges.Dusty G. Garwood, 50, Bradner, is charged with two counts of
gross sexual imposition and one count of sexual battery. His arraignment took place before Judge Robert C.
Pollex Monday. The matter had initially been scheduled for this morning.Garwood was given an own
recognizance bond. As a condition of the bond, he is not to have contact with the alleged victim or her
family.Garwood is accused of sexual contact, including intercourse, with a female inmate who was on
electronic home monitoring because her criminal case was ongoing. On the sexual battery count, the indictment
indicates Garwood “had supervisory or disciplinary authority over the victim who was in the custody of
law.”One of the GSI counts notes that she was compelled to submit “by force or threat of force,” and the
other notes that Garwood knew her ability to resist or consent “was substantially impaired because of a
physical condition” – that being that fact that she was an inmate in custody. The incidents occurred between
April and June of this year.Garwood had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1997, but resigned several
months ago. He regularly transported inmates to and from the Wood County Courthouse.
