PERRYSBURG – Costco is looking into setting up shop in the city.
Representatives of the company paid a visit to the city’s Planning Commission Thursday night.
“This is not formal by any means,” said Mayor Nelson Evans. “This is more of a ‘Hey, this is what we’re thinking about, to give you a head’s up about what we’re possibly proposing.’”
Costco, a membership warehouse club, is interested in opening up a store on land at Eckel Junction Road and Ohio 25. The site, formerly the location of a horse farm, has been up for sale for a number of years and has long been the subject of potential plans from a number of business ventures.
“It’s been up for sale for quite a while,” Evans said of the property.
“They’re kind of getting the feel of the Planning Commission,” he explained, later noting that “it was very open. They were trying to get ideas from the Planning Commission on the design, their thoughts, how it was set up.”
“They took some notes there to take back.”
Costco has one location in the Toledo area, on West Central Avenue, and three in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area, among more than 600 locations worldwide.
Sales for the company in recent years topped $64 billion.
