‘Common Core’ to be explained

The Bowling Green League of Women Voters’ Education Committee will host an overview presentation of the
Common Core and Ohio’s new K-12 learning standards April 28.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the Wood County District Public Library, 251
N. Main St.
Dr. Roger Minier, executive director of the Northwest Ohio Educational Technology Foundation, will share
a history and background of the Common Core and the learning standards, as well as their expected
impacts on education.
Minier has worked in journalism, served as a public school teacher for 12 years, and has acted as
executive director of NWOET, a non-profit state agency located on the campus of Bowling Green State
University, for the past 20 years.
The League’s Education Committee has been studying educational policies and practices for the past two
years.
The mission of the Bowling Green League of Women Voters is to promote political responsibility through
informed and active participation of citizens in government, to increase understanding of major public
policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.
